13th Annual Galveston Island Shrimp Festival!
This event is a celebration of Galveston’s great wild seafood and island lifestyle. Featuring shrimp gumbo tasting, a gumbo cookoff, 5K fun run & more!
Galveston Island is a seafood lover’s paradise all year round, but this September, Yaga’s Entertainment Inc. will bring foodies a little taste of heaven. Come and try some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer!
Event festivities begin on Friday, September 23rd at 7:30pm with the Friday Kick-Off Party in Saengerfest Park with over 800 guests! Friday Kick-Off Party tickets are available to the public for $65.00 and include a Texas Size Shrimp Dinner, libations, and live music.
Saturday, September 24th, events begin with the official Shrimp Scamper 5k Fun Run at 9:00am. All fitness levels and ages are invited to join in this non-competitive event, and costumes and teams are strongly encouraged.
The Shrimp Gumbo Cook-Off, Boat Show, Vendor Exhibits, and Live Music will be held in the Historic Strand District on that same Saturday beginning at 10:00am. Visitors to the festival will be able to purchase a Gumbo Sampling Cup in advance. This cup will allow guests to sample gumbo from cook-off teams from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
Attendees can also purchase the Shrimp Dinner Plate, which features fried shrimp and a free beer.
Professional teams from some of Galveston Island’s famous restaurants will also be selling various dishes for public purchase!
Other events on Saturday include the Lil’ Shrimps Parade at 3:00pm sponsored by Galveston Shrimp Company with festive floats, marching band, and bead tossing.
A portion of event proceeds will benefit the University of Texas Medical Branch and The Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County.
